About Buddhist-Arts
Hi, my name is Cheryl Marland. From 1998 to 2015, my partner, Kathie, and I traveled throughout Asia/SE Asia mostly to visit Buddhist places. I took pictures everywhere faithfully chronicling what we were seeing and where we were. Everywhere we went I bought books on the local Buddhist art, architecture and history so that I could continue to learn about where I was from my pictures and these books. I brought this website online in 2008. I go through periods of time where I have no time to devote to this. I’ve made it very complicated besides.
As I write this introduction at the beginning of 2024, it is my intention to post something about a place I’ve been that has not been posted yet. I have 2 trips to Bagan, many temple and monastery visits in Thailand, Borobudur, more on Angkor Wat. I have enough to keep posting for a good long time.
This website combines my lifelong photography hobby/interest and the training I received as an architectural draftsperson. Throw in some library tech-ness along with my deep appreciation for history and hopefully I can do some justice to each of these places I have visited as I share them with you.
If you are reading this, I hope you enjoy the excursion through the amazing treasure trove that the Buddhist faith has brought to the world. Not to mention the practice and the path I am so grateful for that continues to guide my life. This picture of prayer flags was taken at Boudhnath Stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal.
This is a recent photo of my partner and traveling companion extraordinaire, Kathie, and me at home. The Buddha eyes above us was taken at the Boudnath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal.
